‘Father Of Asahd’ by DJ Khaled

DJ Khaled Returns With A Roster On New Album ‘Father Of Asahd’

You’re lying to yourself if you try to say that you were not anticipating this new project from DJ Khaled. Always gathering a diverse group of talents, Khaled has always done the best job of getting the best of his collaborations. His newest album ‘Father Of Asahd’ is heavily influenced in building his son’s legacy like much of his recent work. The music aspect of this project is second to none, Khaled has done a magnificent job of assembling a 15-track masterpiece, with features including Buju Banton, SizzlaMavado070 Shake, Cardi B21 Savage, Chris BrownLil WayneBig SeanSZAMeek Mill, J BalvinLil BabyJeremihTravis ScottPost MaloneNipsey Hussle, John LegendNasCeeLo GreenJeezyRick RossGunna, Jay-Z, Beyonce,  FutureJustin BieberChance The Rapper & Quavo. We’ve already had the chance of hearing ‘No Brainer’ but the rest of the album caught me off guard. I can see island vibes throughout this project along with gospel sounds.

This project really has everything, the album starts off with ‘Holy Mountain’, where we get to hear Buju, Sizzle, Mavado and 070 go on a gospel like Caribbean flow over a stormy Khaled beat. ‘Wish Wish’ is easily a club track with an essential taste of mainstream Hip-Hop. A night time beat with Cardi & 21 teaming up on verses bringing out the freak at any dance floor. ‘Jealous’ is a dance track catered for the radio with Breezy, Wayne & Big Sean. ‘Just Us’ is a track of power that allows SZA to flex lifestyles over a quiet melody and banging drums. ‘You Stay’ is an infusion of Latin vibes and Hip-Hop, starting from the beat you can get the Latin taste. Jeremih provides vocal harmony, while Lil Baby & Meek hold down the modern Hip-Hop sound as Balvin ends on the Latin vibe that birthed the song. ‘Celebrate’ discusses celebration of the ones living and the ones we’ve lost. Trav on a chorus & Post with his melodic flow is a lethal combo.

‘Higher’ is a heavenly track with Legend on the chorus and the late great Nipsey leading the verses of this track. The duo combines on this powerful tune over Khaleds church choir type melody. ‘Won’t Take My Soul’ is my personal favorite track on this project. Powerful soul vocals from Ceelo Green with a lyrical portrait from Nas. A perfect track for a king with many victory scars. ‘Weather The Storm’  Baby & Meek are back on this track together, with a cold flow and straight bars over a haunting empire type beat. ‘Big Boy Talk’ this is a song for dons with Jeezy & Rick Ross bringing back their star studded flows. The beat was made for elegance and has the throwback mood to 2010. ‘Freak N You’ “Another One.” Weezy & Gunna team up on a beat with a beat consisting with a vocal cuts as a bridge. This song is big vibes and holds down melodic rap for a decade. ‘Top Off’ Future holds down a chorus for Jay and Queen B to go in with their cemented sounds. This is also that track that DJ Khaled teased a year ago!

‘No Brainer’ was a track we were all familiar with. Holding a fast paced vibe with Bieber, Chance & Quavo as the focal points. ‘Thank you’ is a Hip-Hop track with Sean leading the way with his lyrics as he runs down memory lane. He discussed being thankful for your success and listed a handful of metaphors. ‘Holy Ground’ is the final track of this project which seems to be the opposite of the first song. Acoustic and back up vocals are the path that is laid out for Buju to go over with his vocals and lyrics.

The best part of this release is not only the scorchers on this catalog, but the amount of music videos released on the first day. This project is going to last on playlists for decades. This also cements DJ Khaled’s talent at developing his sound to any era.
