We were invited to join Industry Dance Co. To celebrate their 1-year anniversary. The ever growing, drop-in dance studio held their first fashion show to celebrate, in which they also debuted their SZN 2 merch. Though the merch won’t be available for sale until the new year, Brooke and her team touched back on their roots and brought a whole new vibe to the run way.
The show also brought together a handful of creators and influencers from the city. Taking on the run way we got to see rising brands like ‘Look‘, ‘Bluem Vintage‘, ‘Vintage WAY‘ and ‘Higher Sociiety‘ open up for INDUSTRY dance. With many of these brands starting to make noise throughout their city, it was refreshing to see them come together and open the doors for future creators.
The show was hosted by “The Dream” Eugene, who has worked with INDUSTRY since the beginning, he was responsible for their graffiti wall and has shown his support since. He lead the brands to the run way and also introduced the dancers as they scorched the run way.
Look was the first brand to take the stage, this young brand has been igniting the city with their street apparel. Paying homage to their name, their easy to rock hoodies and tees will catch your eye. The brand has even been worn to a Raptors game by player, Terance Davis Jr. Everything to hit the stage was designed by Moe Chatly, who brought his vision to life. This display of mens and women’s streetwear set the tone for INDUSTRY’s very own, Gizmo to perform his hip-hop solo.
Bluem Vintage continued the next chapter of the show, where stylist Carly Hogan reminded us how timeless denim can be. The brand displayed many of their eye popping denim shorts and jeans, but also showed different colours and styled looks. BLUEM Vintage, is a denim collector that can supply you with all your denim needs, whether it’s jean jackets or pants. They also help out with sizing and make an excellent supplier. Their styles featured women’s clothing and blazed the runway to make sure it was warm for the next two performances. Wes kicked off the dance display with his intense popping and locking routine, which was followed by Rylan’s piece to close out the set.
Vintage Way was the middle staple of the show, where the designs of creator, John Michaels brought back a sizzle of nostalgia. With his retro-inspired designs, he showed off his line for men and women that have been flooding the city. The brand doesn’t only sell their designs but their love for vintage fashion allows them to re-work clothing and also offer a thrift market on their site with hand selected and re-worked items. Their show was filled with throw ons, tie dye and denim wear. To cap that series off, Eugene brought back Wes, Rylan and Gizmo to join forces and perform a piece together.
The second last brand of the night is XMPL affiliate, Higher Sociiety. Featured in our magazine, Emeka has spoken to us about his designs and what inspires them. Creating a movement, Higher Sociiety allows creators to be part of a group as they wear the brand proudly. Displaying many out of the box designs we saw the run way dressed with unisex looks dying to hit the streets. The brand also displayed a piece which was a collaboration with another local brand called ‘YLW‘ by designer Rylee Mcgee. Throwing a lob, INDUSTRY had two ground breaking performances.
Throwing the crowd in a frenzy was a solo performance by the youngest member of the show, Bryson Belanger. Continuing the hype, INDUSTRY showcased the cities first and only professional Heels company, ‘Fade by INDUSTRY‘. The amazing dancers gave a very intimate heels performance, to close out the last dance piece.
The grand finale was uptempo and matched the excitement the guests had to see the new merch. INDUSTRY finally got to cap the night with the display of their SZN 2 Merch. Showing off beautiful neutral colors, INDUSTRY’s unisex attire isn’t only fit for the dance studio but will excel to match any urban vibe you want to pull off. All the hoodies, tees & sweats that will compliment your fit’s were designed by the founder of INDUSTRY Dance Co. Brooke Gursoy. We had the pleasure of interviewing her in this City Edition, as we highlight the cities talented creators.
Many of the behind the scene credits go to the make up artists at Glow and Co Studio, for the make up on the models. Braids Blowout Styles by Megan Ellis of TRAY’ELLE took everyones hair up to the next level. Also someone who is regarded one of the best shooters in this city and had the pleasure of interviewing, Mac Tools was at the end of the runway to snap some pics. Music kicked off the and closed the night, as Jemz Stoned controlled the decks.
