Music streaming platform Spotify released their emerging artist program RADAR earlier this year which features handpicked rising artists from their very own curators. Moving into Northern territory, Spotify has recently expanded the program this summer and has launched their first Canada-based “On Our RADAR” and have chosen Canadian R&B singer Emanuel.

The news follows Emanuel’s recent addition to Apple Music’s “Beats Artist of the Week” as well as other highlighted features from Amazon Music and Soundcloud.

Rightfully so, Emanuel has earned his place in the spotlight after releasing his first EP ‘Alt Therapy Session 1: Disillusion‘ which dropped on Juneteenth. The Canadian singer first grabbed our attentions earlier this year with his first single ‘Need You’ as quarantine took over the world, actor and DJ Idris Elba even began campaigning #NeedYou2020 – a compilation video of fans from around the world as they coped with our current situation, showing how we were all connected.

In a statement, this is what Emanuel had to say on being selected to be the first Canada-based RADAR artist, “I recently dropped Session 1: Disillusion – my first EP – which is all about love, healing, renaissance, dedication and defiance. We’re going through transitions and as artists, it’s important for us to use our art to create deeper connections and show our commitment to our communities. When Spotify approached me to be RADAR’s first Canadian emerging artist, I was super honored and I am so proud to be able to bring my fans further into my world, especially as human connections change and reflect the times we are living through. Let this love in music be your Alt Therapy.”
