TiKA Releases New Single And Music Video For “Sideways”

Canadian Artist TiKA Drops First Single “Sideways” From Forthcoming Debut Album

Canadian artist TiKA has just released her new single “Sideways” – the first listen from her highly anticipated debut album “Anywhere But Here” through Toronto-based label, Next Door Records.

Known for her work as a film composer, model, curator and songwriter in the Toronto art scene – TiKA adds singer to the list as she’s been preparing and refining her skills for the last half-decade, giving us an unfiltered yet serene sound in her music. Known for promoting and introducing audiences to Canadian artists such as Jessie Reyez, Daniel Caesar and Haviah Mighty – TiKA gears up for her own debut through her forthcoming project “Anywhere But Here” – set to drop on February 26th, 2021.

“Sideways was cultivated from a vulnerable place of immense pain when I was feeling a great deal of shame for making a mistake with a friend. I didn’t know what to do because I felt that I had ruined the relationship to the point of not turning back. It made me feel unbalanced and insecure. At the intersections of the pivotal & life-changing moments that we face, we can feel unsteady. Uncertain for the future. The one thing that I could always count on to hold me was music and freedom. Music to guide my steps, freedom in the reality that I was indeed human and flawed. Despite the remorse, I was encouraged by the fact that there may be room in every heart for reconciliation and redemption,” TiKA says on her latest single in a recent statement.

Drawing inspiration for her graceful rawness from legendary Black Queer women of the 90’s, such as Meshell Ndegeocello, Tracy Chapman, Dionne Farris and Diana King – “Anywhere But Here” is said to consist of “ethereal sounds that wrap around you, reminding you of other memories.” TiKA’s debut album also includes production work from Casey MQ as well as will feature a duet with Toronto-based R&B artist, Desiire.

“Anywhere But Here” will be tackling personal relationships all while being inspired by TiKA’s own Jamaican roots and self-reflection. With the first listen and visuals showing us what TiKA has in motion for her debut album, we’ll be looking out for her upcoming release in 2021.
