Capturing the classic early 2000’s R&B sound with today’s modern music, up and coming music artist Kye Russoul continues to innovate his sound by creating new waves in music through his soulful voice. The R&B artist who recently released his EP, “Love Trap & Blues,” is back with another project, his single “365” and a music video for “Better” ft. Marquel Deljuan, that was released on June 21. A lot of soul behind his voice and hunger in his stomach, Kye continues to be inspired by life.
XMPL got the chance to interview Kye Russoul regarding his focus to the genre and upcoming projects, watch his music video for ‘Better’ and read the full interview below:
XMPL: As an R&B/Soul singer from Phoenix AZ, what made you focus your talents on this genre and what were some of the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Kye Russoul: What made me focus on this genre the most was my love for Rhythm&Blues(R&B). I grew up on the sound and grew to develop a love for it at a young age. The biggest challenge that I’ve had to overcome is limiting myself trying to compare my sound to others, when it is truly incomparable.
None of the tracks on ‘Love Trap & Blues’ sound the same, What were you aiming for when making this EP?
Honestly I was just aiming to put out a classic project. Something that people could always back to because it’s timeless and forever.
When do most of your ideas come to you? Describe the moment when you realized that an idea should be a song.
My music is very personal so my ideas comes from my current situations or the situations that are happening around me.
In your track ‘Better,’ you and Marquel Deljuan did a great job working together! Tell us what kind of things you learn from working with other artists & explain to us what you have to offer for other artists!
RESPECT! Shoutout to my cuz’ Marquel. We got some big things ahead for sure, but I love vibing off of other artist creativity and just aiming to create at the highest level.

What are your inspirations outside of music?
Outside of music, I would say my inspirations consist of continuing to seek lost knowledge and traveling the world.
If you could work with 5 different artists from any point in time, who would they be?
Man…the 5 artists would have to be Kendrick Lamar, Ella Mai, Ed Sheeran, Pharrell Williams, Kelly Rowland.
Can you tell us what you’re trying to achieve with your music?
My main goal is to leave the world with classic music. I mean.. 50-100 years from now, I still want people to be playing my music. That’s the long-term goal.
What new projects are you working on that we can look forward to?
I’m working on a couple projects at the moment but my next personal project is “If It Matters…”. This is my second Ep and is anticipated to drop in Sept. I’m also working on a Producer/Singer-Songwriter collaborative project with my brother John Raless under the name “AFFEKT” that is anticipated to drop in early 2019.
