Kays Is Ready For Global Takeover

African artists have been dominating the world stage, with artists like Wizkid, Tyla, Burna Boy and Davido pushing Afrobeats and Afro-fusion into the mainstream. Looking ahead, the next wave of African talent is already bubbling up, with Lagos-born, Canada-based artist Kays as he prepares for his own global takeover.

After founding his own independent media company, Kays Nation Media, he doubled down on music, dropping high-energy Afro-fusion records that weave in the Creole language, rhythms and customs of his Nigerian roots. Writing, recording, and producing all of his own material, Kays positions himself as a triple threat with a clear vision. “There’s so much more of the culture to share, and I’m excited to be part of this movement,” he shares with us during a Q&A.

That vision came to life on his EP, FOREVER KAYS. The 7-track EP highlights his Nigerian heritage while layering in smooth R&B vocals and genre-fluid production. “This project is about revealing a new dimension of my artistry, exploring the different genres I can create,” he explains. Kays isn’t just watching the global Afrobeats takeover, he’s gearing up to lead the next wave.

We had the chance to catch up with Kays for a Q&A to dive deeper into his musical influences, his latest project and more. Read the full interview and stream FOREVER KAYS below.

XMPL: How would you describe your music to new listeners and what do you hope they might take away?

Kays: My music is deeply rooted in real-life experiences. While it blends various genres, I would describe it as Afro Fusion at its core. For me, it’s about creating authentic connections and offering a sense of enlightenment through the stories I tell. I aim to make music that not only inspires but also resonates with listeners on a personal level. We all face challenges—whether it’s in relationships, finding our purpose, family, love, or happiness—and I want my music to reflect that shared journey. Ultimately, I believe we’re all connected, no matter where we come from, and my hope is to bring people together through that understanding.

Crafting this body of work was a truly enjoyable and fulfilling experience.

Working on Paranoia was an exciting experience that allowed me to dive back into my Afro Beat/Amapiano roots while pushing creative boundaries. They are all unique in their own way so I would say all of them.
