Formerly known as 4twnty, the R&B/Pop music duo reintroduce themselves as Tuché with the release of their new EP, ‘What I Want.’
The Canadian girl group have launched a fresh journey with their new name and direction, following years of dedication and artistic growth. ‘What I Want’ comes as a much-antipicated return and new chapter, delving into themes of love, desire, vulnerability and self-discovery.
“What I Want is more than just a title, it’s a reclamation. We started this journey in 2018 in Windsor, Ontario as 4twnty– two girls born on the same day, creating music for fun and sharing it with people around us,” Tuché shares with XMPL on their new project. “What began as something light quickly turned into purpose after stepping on stages in Los Angeles, Atlanta and Toronto, where we discovered a real love for performing and storytelling. As second generation immigrant women with roots in Sudan and Nigeria, we carried both the discipline of our upbringing and the desire to carve out something of our own.”

With production by dancehall and Afrobeats music producer UGYN, hip-hop producer Brizy Beats and Atlanta-based multi-platinum producer, TAYO– ‘What I Want’ fuses Afro-influenced rhythms with R&B, Pop and Soul. The 4-track EP is executive produced by Canadian producer and frequent collaborator, 180dazz.
“At its core, this project is about trust, trusting ourselves, our path and our higher power,” Tuché adds. “Even when things didn’t unfold the way we envisioned, we’ve come to understand that everything arrived at the right time. The single What I Want is a reflection of that faith: the belief that what is meant for us will always find us, even if the journey is longer than expected.”

Through “What I Want,” Tuché signals more than just a comeback as they aim to stand tall amongst Canada’s current R&B landscape with a fresh sound and a renewed creative vision. “This is our reintroduction. It holds our impatience, our pain, our growth, and gratitude…for the people who stayed, who believed, and who gave us the space to become. Now, we’re ready to give everything we are consistently and unapologetically.”
