Ahead of his upcoming album – Toronto-based rapper and producer Cadence Weapon has shared his new single and accompanying music video titled, ‘Exceptional.’
As the Edmonton poet laureate, born Roland “Rollie” Pemberton, gears up to release his sixth studio album, “ROLLERCOASTER” – he sets the stage again with his new single since last month’s release ‘Press Eject’ with Grandtheft. ‘Exceptional’ is produced by fellow Canadian musician and electronic DJ – Jacques Greene and also features additional vocals by myst milano. Directed by Colin Medley and Jared Raab, the music video is set against the backdrop of an award acceptance speech, showing Cadence changing fits while appearing to also traverse dimensions.
“When I wrote ‘Exceptional’ with Jacques Greene, I wanted it to feel like the endorphin rush you get from pressing the button that says ‘Buy It Now’ when you’re shopping online,” shares Cadence Weapon on his latest release in a recent statement to XMPL. His upcoming album is said to be filled with “hyperpop and electro-inspired” production and will also mirror the internet’s current fixation on “sensory overload.” Cadence Weapon’s upcoming album is sure to be a musical rollercoaster ride, with credits including the likes of Jacques Greene, Grandtheft, Bartees Strange, Machinedrum, Cecile Believe, Martyn Bootyspoon, Loraine James, Taydex, Wesley Singerman, myst milano, and Harrison.
“ROLLERCOASTER” the album is set to be released on Friday, April 19th and will also launch Cadence’s “Rollercoaster Tour” which will conclude in August at Montreal’s Osheaga Festival.
