Canadian Rapper Jay Whiss Lays It All Out On New EP, ‘Dark Cloud’
Stepping into the solo-scene since Prime Boys, Toronto-based rapper Jay Whiss brings us his new EP titled, ‘Dark Cloud’ – released on June 5th. The project includes features with Toronto artist SAFE and fellow Prime Boy, Jimmy Prime – famously known for coining the term “the 6” for Canada’s most influential city.
‘Dark Cloud’ is a collection of 3-tracks, influenced by Whiss’ most recent years and reminiscent of the late Kosi Prime (Prime Boys assistant manager) and collaborator Smoke Dawg – both tragically lost to gun violence in 2018. The emotional battles’ following the sudden event inspired the rapper to convert his pain into music, and lays it all out on the EP and visuals for his ‘Dark Cloud’ music video (seen above).

The EP has already begun to appeal to rap lovers, with tracks like ‘How It Goes’ – in Whiss’ developed-style, even embodying Toronto’s classic sound on ‘Every Night’ alongside Jimmy Prime and SAFE. The ‘Dark Cloud’ title-track was also recently added to Spotify’s renowned Northern Bars playlist – furthering the project’s circulation. However, ‘Dark Cloud’ is only a preview of what’s to come later this year – as Jay Whiss prepares for the release of his debut album, which will also be featuring Canadian music producer and long-time collaborator Murda Beatz.
