‘Queen’ by Nicki Minaj

Nicki Minaj Is Back With Her Crown In New Album ‘Queen’

Nicki Minaj is back reminding everyone who owns the crown, in her new album ‘Queen‘. We saw the album get pushed back a couple of times which had me worried it wouldn’t be as good as I was anticipating it to be. However I will be the first to apologize for doubting Nicki, I was hyped after I  saw her release ‘Chun-Li’ but the wait had me iffy on the content. Nicki absolutely torched up the game, everyone should take notes and see what a good album looks like. 19 tracks of Nick?! we can’t ask for anything else!

This album bumps so hard and is filled with lyrical word play, melody and raw beats! Nicki changes her flow on many of these tracks, and I mean on the same track! Rocking each tune with her talents, she holds 8 features on this project. Having Eminem, Labrinth, Lil Wayne, Ariana Grande, The Weeknd, Swae Lee, Future & my personal favorite Foxy Brown. Each feature adds fuel to the wild fire Nicki created but Foxy is my favorite feature, because as a fan ‘The Firm’ I viewed it as two queens of past and present wielding flames.

‘Barbie Dreams’ is a track that really stood out because she put everybody on spot by taking heads off. It might have been intended in a harmless manner, but Chun-Li just gave rap the competitive traits it’s been missing. ‘Majesty’ was a stand out track for me, because Nicki goes in raw daring anyone to step to the thrown. Labrinth compliments the tune with the chorus, but as someone who has always been hit or miss on Eminem, he came through and flowed impressively. He had me getting giddy with his reference to the legendary Q-Tip, this is also another track where Nicki takes different flows.

Putting the world on pause there is more than words can describe for you to take away from this album. After putting it on repeat since the release, I finally picked my 5 favorite tracks. I also picked out my favorite lyrics just for this release!

Top 5:

  1. Ganja Burns
  2. LLC
  3. Majesty
  4. Run & Hide
  5. Coco Chanel

“Yo, you can’t wear Nicki wig and then be Nicki
That’s like a fat nigga thinkin’ he can be Biggie
One rough ride, now you DMX and Swissy
One hot video, you Hype? Nah you just giddy
You made one dope beat, now you Kanye?
You got a nigga named JAY, now you ‘Yoncé?
You got about three stacks, now you André?
You put a part in your fade, oh, you Nas, bae?
You gotta have real skill, gotta work for that
If it’s really your passion would you give the world for that?
Unlike a lot of these hoes whether wack or lit
At least I can say I wrote every rap I spit”

-Nicki Minaj ‘Ganja Burns’

Those are my favorite lyrics because it paints how hard these artists work & there might be a little biased feelings towards the names mentioned. Regardless this album is a great listen, the production is game changing. Give it a listen, tell us your Top 5.
