YBN Cordae is back with another single to round off the summer with. After generating a considerable amount of attention and internet buzz via World Star exclusive releases such as “Old Ni**as”, an intelligent, yet controversial response to J. Cole’s “1985”, and “Kung Fu”, Cordae keeps the momentum rolling with the release of “Scotty Pippen“.
The video was released in late August through frequent collaborator Cole Bennett and his Lyrical Lemonade imprint, and takes on a high school gym class theme. Cordae finds and sports a vintage Champion brand Chicago Bulls jersey while rapping in a locker room, and also shooting buckets with his friends on an asphalt court.
Cordae continues to display his playful swagger and ability to flow melodically, while also switching pace and pattern. This single has a similar flow to “Kung Fu”, but the Raleigh-bred MC shows expansive wordplay and a knack for producing catchy hooks, “Scotty Pippen” acting as further evidence.
The entire YBN outfit will look to continue to gain momentum going into 2019, which is set to be a big year for album releases between the members.
